Zhongxiao Road Night Market

One of Taichung’s largest night markets

Zhongxiao Road Night Market

Zhongxiao Road Night Market (忠孝路觀光夜市) is a popular night market in Taichung, best know for it’s delicious, yet cheap, food stalls. Lots is on offer here, from oyster vermicelli, to fried chicken and spicy hotpot. The market actually dates back all the way to the Japanese colonial period, and seems more authentic and down-to-earth than the ones in Taipei. The truly local experience of the market is really what gets tourists buzzing when they arrive.

It can get rather busy on the roads, so be careful that you don’t get hit by any of the fast moving vehicles and take care when crossing. One idea might be to walk down one side first, then come back on the other side, so you only need to cross once!

The Zhongxiao Road Night Market is also next to the Third Market, the daytime market that focuses more on clothing and everyday items.

How to get there

The market is a 10-minute walk from Taichung Station. Take a left from the north exit, walking past the old train station, then head left and go down the road that goes under the tracks. You’ll start to see the market activity after about five minutes. It’s also a minute south of the Cultural Heritage Park or possible to get here with a YouBike rental bike.
