Zhongshe Flower Market (中社觀光花市花海) is a busy flower viewing spot to the north of Taichung. It’s the only flower market in the low altitude areas of central Taiwan to have been able to successfully grow tulips, with over 150,000 tulips in bloom from January to March. The farm is large enough to keep you entertained for a while, but all very walkable. Along the way you’ll stroll through fields of lavender, sunflowers and many other colorful flowers.
It’ll be good fun for the kind of people that would love to get a photo of themselves playing piano surrounded by beautiful flowers or in a lifesize photo frame, but is considered a tourist trap by many visitors. You will get some amazing Instagram pictures though, as there are all sorts of funny setups made specifically for sharing pictures with friends.
How to get there
From Taichung Station, first take a local train to Tai’an Station (30 minutes, NT$34). From here you can either walk (20 minutes) or use one of the YouBikes outside the station (7-8 minutes). There are also taxis available at Houli station, the stop just before. Free parking is available if you are driving to Zhongshe Flower Market.
