Painted Animation Lane

Get your geek on at this unique tourist spot

Painted Animation Lane

Taichung’s Painted Animation Lane (動漫彩繪巷) is a small, easily missed street in central Taichung lined with scenes based on nostalgic cartoon and anime characters, drawn by some super talented local artists. It’s all here, from Daffy Duck, to Super Mario and One Piece, so it’s a real trip down memory lane. You’re sure enough to come across some favorites from your childhood, as well as some modern characters.

The walls on both sides of the street, as well as a few lanes heading off from the main street are lined with the drawings. Some are still in progress, so visitors will be able to get a little insight into how the art is created, or may even be lucky enough to see the artists doing their magic. The area won’t take much time to explore, and is a perfect diversion to add to a YouBike trip.

How to get there

From Taichung Station take bus route 25 to Chung-Shin Elementary School (10 minutes, free). The lane starts down to the right on the main road (look out for the wall art). Alternatively, it’s a 15 to 20 minute walk from the station to Painted Animation Lane. It can also be done in a short YouBike ride from the station.
